Metal Yapı Group delivered the design, engineering, fabrication, and installation of the 110,000 m² main terminal façade at Istanbul Airport one of the largest terminal façades ever constructed under a single roof. The project was executed through the integrated expertise of Metal Yapı A.Ş. (façade systems) and Metal Yapı Eng&Cons. (structural steel systems), ensuring seamless coordination between envelope and structure. The façade comprises a unitized curtain wall system integrated with 40-meter-high steel façade columns, engineered to withstand extreme wind loads while maintaining high levels of transparency, air-water tightness, and thermal performance. A total of 8,243 factory-produced unitized panels were designed with double-drained aluminum profiles and structural silicone-bonded double glazing to meet stringent performance and durability requirements. All façade and steel systems were developed using fully integrated BIM workflows, enabling high production rates, precise tolerances, and accelerated on-site installation. The façade engineering solutions contributed significantly to the terminal achieving LEED Gold certification, meeting demanding criteria for energy efficiency, airtightness, and long-term operational performance. The Istanbul Airport façade stands as a global reference for mega-scale, high-performance envelope engineering delivered through fully integrated design-build processes.
